About the Annual History Symposium

Take a deep dive into the rich, complex, and distinctive history of New Orleans with the annual History Symposium. Every year we bring together scholars, experts, and community members to unpack a different topic from our region’s ever-changing narrative. Since the symposium was started in 1996, we’ve explored a variety of subjects, including culinary traditions, architecture, sports, Black activism, Storyville, jazz, and Mardi Gras, as well Louisiana’s ties to Haiti, Cuba, Canada, France, Spain, and Great Britain. Plans are underway for next year’s event.
