Organized by WILLIAM WOODWARD in 1885 after the closing of the World's Industrail and Cotton Centennial Exposition for Tulane University and its High School. During the existence of these classes, nearly five thousand students were enrolled and taught by a group of instructors including ELLSWORTH WOODWARD and JOHN ORDWAY. After Newcomb College was founded GERTRUDE ROBERTS SMITH was appointed an instructor on October 1, 1887.
