Below, you will see four sources that each present a different perspective on the black All-Star players' decision to leave New Orleans after experiencing racism in the city. After reading, watching, and/or listening to each source, consider the following questions:
- From what point of view (player, observer, etc.) was each source created?
- How might that point of view have influenced how they recorded or remembered the situation?
- Sources 1 and 2 were created at the time of the event, while sources 3 and 4 were created decades later. How do you think the difference in time may have affected how people remember this event?
- How does Dick Westmoreland's account of the players' troubles with taxicabs contrast with David F. Dixon's portrayal of the same situation? Can you find other instances where these sources directly contradict each other?
