Interactive Lesson Plans

These original lesson plans, created by THNOC’s education staff, encourage students to engage their critical thinking skills while investigating primary sources. Each interactive lesson plan contains multimedia components and links to external resources.

At their best, sports bring us together—rooting for the home team during an afternoon at the ballpark, or rallying around a common cause during difficult times. Crescent City Sport: Stories of Courage and Change draws from more than a dozen institutional and private collections to tell 20 of these tales, each one a thread in the social fabric of New Orleans. This interactive lesson plan explores nine of these stories by examining images and text from the exhibition, as well as educational activities and resources compiled by THNOC's education department.

This curriculum, based on oral histories collected as part of the NOLA Resistance project, prompts students to engage with primary and secondary historical sources to examine the experiences of local civil rights leaders. The three lessons—Stories of Resistance, Young Leaders of New Orleans, and Integrating McDonogh 19—help students cultivate critical thinking skills, further develop their reading comprehension abilities, and gain experience in assessing different types of historical sources.
