Volume 9 of TWAR presents a rare discovery: the previously unpublished Interior: Panic, an early one-act version of Williams’ classic A Streetcar Named Desire. TWAR editor Robert Bray, who discovered the work at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin, said the work was written between 1945 and 1946. He believes the play is “the only extant one-act version” of A Streetcar Named Desire.

Other highlights of this year’s journal include an analysis of the relationship between Williams and dramatist William Inge, an article on the influence of director Margo Jones, one on the long development of Sweet Bird of Youth, and an article/interview with Charlotte Moore, who knew Williams and starred in A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur.
