Curator Camp 2026

Hosted at HNOC and French Quarter partner organizations

Curator Camp, formerly known as Museum Lab, is a weeklong summer program for teens (ages 12–17) who have always wanted to go behind the scenes at a museum. If you get excited by history, art, artifacts, or storytelling, then Curator Camp is for you! Through daily hands-on workshops, Curator Camp participants will be introduced to skills and ideas that bring history and museums to life.

  • Explore HNOC's vast archives and learn about how objects are preserved and cared for
  • Experience how museums acquire materials in a mock artifact auction
  • Engage with real historic objects of your choice from HNOC's holdings
  • Learn about how museum exhibitions are designed, prepared, and constructed

Go Behind the Scenes with Curator Camp!

Beyond HNOC, Curator Camp participants will visit other museums in the French Quarter, including the Hermann-Grima House, New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, and Louisiana State Museum Cabildo and Presbytère, and enjoy a live jazz performance at the legendary Preservation Hall. Each day features something new to see, learn, and do. No experience is necessary: just bring your curiosity!

A group of children stand around a table covered with vintage items, documents, and photos. The room is well-lit with natural light from a window. The children appear engaged and are discussing the displayed objects.
A group of teenage students gather around a table displaying various historic items, including posters, buttons, and a feathered mask. The setting appears to be indoors with ornate architecture in the background. People are observing and discussing the items.

Curator Camp is for teens ages 12–17. Admission is $250 per student. If tuitition cost is a barrier or if you have additional questions, please contact us via the form below.
