Accessibility

HNOC strives to ensure everyone feels welcome and is committed to being accessible to all.

Museum Accessibility

  • The museum’s main entrance at 520 Royal Street is level with the sidewalk. We do not have automated doors for entry and exit, so staff will assist you.
  • Visitors are welcome to use personal mobility devices in our spaces. We have a limited number of manual wheelchairs available for use during a museum visit for free on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Museum visitors will find a limited number of lockers available near the welcome center to store small personal items during your visit. Lockers cannot be reserved in advance.
  • The museum has two elevators: one in the Seignouret-Brulatour Building and a second in the Tricentennial Wing. There are also flights of stairs between each of the three floors.
  • Our 520 Royal Street complex contains two gallery spaces that are not fully accessible to visitors who are unable to use stairs: the 2nd floor of the Seignoret-Brulatour building and 2nd floor of the Tricentennial Wing. HNOC staff are happy to provide image and text summaries (in large, easily-readable font) to visitors who are unable to access these areas.
  • Large-print exhibition guides and magnifying glasses are available in most galleries.
  • Open captioning is integrated into most museum gallery videos and interactives.
  • The door leading from the courtyard to the Tricentennial Wing is heavy and is not automatic. A staff member will open the door if you need help.
  • There are benches in the Taylor Welcome Center and throughout the exhibition spaces. The courtyard also has tables and chairs.
  • Restrooms are in the Tricentennial Wing on floors 1 and 2. Each restroom has a wheelchair-accessible stall and a changing station.
