Louisiana Landmarks Society Honors HNOC’s Renovation of Former K-Paul’s Restaurant
The Collection’s 416 Chartres Street project received a 2026 Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
On March 20, 2026, the Louisiana Landmarks Society named the Historic New Orleans Collection’s renovation of 416 Chartres Street among the 2026 winners for their Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
According to the Society, the awards honor renovation projects completed in Orleans Parish in 2025 that “represent outstanding examples of the restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings.” Sandra Stokes, Chair of the Preservation Awards Committee added, “from the Lower Ninth Ward to Uptown, these projects prove that preservation and progress go hand in hand.”
HNOC’s renovation of 416 Chartres Street is among 19 projects honored by Louisiana Landmarks Society this year. HNOC acquired the building in late 2023 and, in 2025, completed a $6.4 million historic renovation to convert the two-story, 1834 structure (originally two buildings, 416 and 420 Chartres Street) into a state-of-the-art facility supporting exhibition fabrication, media production, and collections-related operations. The structure was officially named the Chef Paul Prudhomme Building in December of 2025 to connect the renowned chef’s lasting cultural influence and the site’s culinary legacy with its future as a center of creative production.
In the announcement published by New Orleans CityBusinessOpens in new tab, Louisiana Landmarks Society’s entry for 416 Chartres Street reads as follows:
416 Chartres Street – The Historic New Orleans Collection
Team: The Historic New Orleans Collection, Trapolin-Peer Architects, Ryan Gootee General Contractors, Schrenk Engineering, Moses Engineers, Rick Fifield.
Originally constructed in 1834, 416 Chartres Street is a contributing building within the Vieux Carré Historic District. Most recently home to K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen, the building had been heavily altered by decades of restaurant build-out, obscuring much of its historic fabric and limiting natural light. The rehabilitation transformed the structure into a fabrication and studio facility for the Historic New Orleans Collection, guided by a strategy of revealing historic masonry and restoring openness.
The Louisiana Landmarks Society’s 2026 Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation will be presented on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. at Gallier Hall, 545 St. Charles Avenue. The event is open to the general public. Learn more at louisianalandmarks.org.Opens in new tab
