“Tripod: New Orleans at 300” Has a New Home
In 2015, WWNO approached HNOC about collaborating on a radio program that would mark the approaching 300th anniversary of the founding of New Orleans.
The resulting project, TriPod: New Orleans at 300, hosted by Laine Kaplan-Levenson, is an innovative, award-winning series of micro-documentaries that ran for three years on WWNO.
Now the series lives on at tripodnola.org, where you can explore New Orleans’s lost and neglected stories, delve deeper into the familiar ones, and question preconceived notions about the city’s history. All of the series’ episodes are available as audio files—search for a specific story or name, explore different categories like Building the City, Gender & Sexuality, Politics, Religion, Colonialism & Enslavement, and more, or browse the full list until a title catches your eye.
In addition, educators around New Orleans and Louisiana have been using TriPod episodes as teaching tools, and the website collects these materials in one place for public use.
TriPod is a production of WWNO in collaboration with the Historic New Orleans Collection and the Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies at the University of New Orleans. The series is hosted and produced by WWNO’s Laine Kaplan-Levenson, working with the assistance of a 40-member international advisory group of historians and archivists.
