New Orleans and the Spanish World

Grades 7–9

An artistic illustration of a woman in a vibrant, layered dress of red, yellow, and orange. She is holding a matching fan, surrounded by smaller figures dancing. The background features colorful swirls and decorations.

These six lessons focus on the influence of the Spanish Caribbean on New Orleans. Lessons 1–3 explore the historical connections between Spain and New Orleans from the colonial period up to the late 19th century, and lessons 4–6 involve listening activities with musical selections and reading materials about the composers.
